PTA Newsletter
We are a small but dedicated group of parents and teachers, who are committed to helping to provide our children with some of the many things not able to be obtained through the budget given by the Government.
Last year we donated nearly $34,000 to the school as a direct result of our school community efforts. This money was used in a variety of ways: to purchase new books and maths equipment, to equip the new and some existing classrooms with extra computers and projectors, and $16,000 is still held to go towards a new playground for our youngest students.
Without the help of local businesses who sponsor our events in a variety of ways, and our students and parents, and other community members, we would not have been able to do this much.
This year we are lost our Chair, Rebecca Nolan, due to an exciting adventure. Rebecca has been a very valued member of the PTA for quite a number of years and we will miss her hospitality and all the hard work she has put in. Thanks for everything and have a great trip. We also lost our amazing secretary, Stephanie, and were lucky to find Angel to take her place. Also new to the PTA this year is Nikki, who replaces our outgoing Treasurer, Andrea. Thanks to all outgoing and incoming Committee members, and to all our wonderful PTA helpers.
How Can You Help?
Our Committee consists of a core group who meet for about 1½ hours, once a month. We also have a list of people that we can call on to help with events as we need them. Some help each year to organise the Ball, others come along and help with the discos, Netball Fun Day, Sushi Wednesdays, and Hot Chocolate Fridays. If you would like to be added to our email list, or would like to come along to our meetings, then please send me an email: hmckie@beachlands.school.nz
If there is something we need help with we send out an email to all on our list and those who are able to help then know what is needed. You can help out as much or as little as you are able. We would love to have you on board.
Upcoming Events to mark in your diaries
These are the events we have planned for this coming year. Some dates may change , but we will keep you up to date if they do.
- Term 2: Sushi Wednesdays start up again
- Term 2: Hot Chocolate Fridays begin. Still a few blue thermal mugs for sale at $10 each.
- Term 2: Entertainment Books will go on sale
- Friday 8 July: Intermediate Students Winter Ball
- Saturday 9 July: The Annual Community Ball
- Beginning Term 3: Abacus Calendar, Diary and Card order forms will be sent out.
- September: (Date to be announced later) Netball Fun Day for Y5-8 students.
- Early Term 4: Fun Run
- We will also be holding a couple of discos, and dates will be announced nearer the time.
The Community Ball sold out in no time. This will be the first time since starting the Community Balls 5 years ago that we have sold all available tickets. This is an awesome evening and word has obviously spread as we have had many people unable to buy tickets this year.
