Report Information
The end of year reports provide clear information about where your child is achieving in relation to the national standards. Written comments outline the specific skills your child has in reading, writing and maths. They also show the next learning steps for your child and make suggestions of how you can help with their learning at home.
A small grid next to the comments in each area will indicate where your child is achieving in relation to the national standard for their year level:
Below - working at a level below the national standard.
Working towards - Working at a level slightly below the expectation but could, with a little support achieve the standard the following year.
At - achieving the national standard
Above - working at a level above the national standard.
Please refer to the progress grids attached to the national standards information on this website to determine where your child is achieving in relation to all standards.
Definition of terms used in the report
The New Zealand Curriculum is divided into levels, starting from level 1 and progressing to level 4. Each of these levels spreads over two years, i.e.
level 1 covers years 1 & 2, level 2 covers years 3 &4 level 3 covers years 5 &6 and level 4 covers years 7 & 8.
Each level is divided into 3 sections to identify where each student sits within that level:
B – Basic P-Proficient A-Advanced
Basic- beginning of curriculum level
Proficient – middle of curriculum level
Advanced – end of curriculum level
i.e. 3B – Curriculum level 3 Basic, means child is achieving at the beginning of curriculum level 3.
