Welcome to room 14, we enjoyed a very busy term 2 learning all about the history of toys, games and crazes some of which will continue through this term. Term 3 will be another exciting term; we have a strong environmental focus beginning with weeding the shell bank at Umupuia (Duders Beach). The rare New Zealand Dotteral nests at Umupuia and weeding the bank ensures that invasive grasses do not disturb their nesting site. Our learning pathway this term is 'adopt a stream' which involves carrying out experiments on a local stream to find out about stream life and water quality. As part of our study we will learn all about the water cycle and build understanding of the importance of protecting our oceans; finally we will explore ways we can minimise water pollution.
