During Term 1 our Years 7 and 8 students are undertaking 2 Technology units.
Their individual project for this term is to design and create a simple wooden box.
The purpose of this unit is to firstly teach them the skills needed to use materials and woodworking tools for a purpose. They will also learn about the design process, looking at the ideas of others, planning on who they are going to design for and why, and then tailoring their design to suit the needs, purposes and likes of their chosen client. They will follow this by looking at a number of ideas which they will evaluate as to their appropriateness and managability. At this point they will finalise their idea for their box. From then on they will be looking at making nets from card, and using measurement to work out how they will need to cut their wood in order to make a box that will fit together correctly. The wood will need to be correctly prepared and joined together for a successful outcome.
At the end of Term come back to view a slide show of the completed boxes.
