Welcome to Term 3. I hope you all had a fantastic holiday.
For the first 3 to 4 weeks of the term 3, I will be assessing the students in Numeracy, Spelling and Reading to establish current levels and create new learning groups.
This term the students will be working towards achieveing their learning goals selected at the end of term 2.
Opportunity will be provided for the students to reflect on these goals in class in their learning logs. You may like to support and assist your child with working towards achieving their learning goals at home. As part of the students learning journey, they will also be given the opportunity to reflect on their learning in Numeracy, Reading and Written Language to decide what their next step in learning will be.
Our Learning Pathways, "Can we save the animals?" will continue for the first half of the term. We will be looking at how we can prevent animals from becoming endangered. We have a Zoo trip planned for week 2 and will create a Living Zoo at school planned for week 4 or 5, where parents are invited to come along. The students will have the opportunity to decide what action they would like to take as a result of our learning.
Our focus for learning in other areas for this term will be:
Reading: Answering literal and inferential questions.
Written Language: Poetic (Character and Narrative Writing).
Mathematics: Numeracy Fractions and Add/Sub, Measurement.
Beachlands Learner: Contributors.
Our class routines for term 3 are as follows:
Homework: Sheets to be taken home on Monday and returned completed on Friday. All children are expected to read every night.
Sports and PE: Bring PE gear on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Library: Library Day is Wednesday. The students are able to take home one book at a time. This needs to be returned before another can reissued.
Assembly: Monday and Thursday. Parents are welcome to attend.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
We have made progress with our Frog Pond. The students have helped with planting around the edge of the pond. Reeds will be planted in the pond. We have attempted to release some tadpoles and fish into the pond, but they have become the target of birds. Our next project will be to put some covering over the pond to protect our Frog friends.
