Look for opportunities to extend oral language
and Maths through everyday experiences.
E.g. Everybody is having 2 potatoes for dinner.
How many potatoes will we need?
Maths:
Basic Facts weekly practice of the number
Support your child to make and learn the
family of facts
for the number indicated eg. 6
2+4=6 4+2=6 6-2=4 6-4=2
5+1=6...
3+3=6...
6+0=6...
extension of this 20+40=60, 200+400=600
and 2x3=6 3x2=6 6 divided by 2=3
Create little problems for them to solve
eg Jane has 2 dolls and Sam gives her 4 more.
How many does Jane have now?
Home Reader:
A home reader will go home every day. Read
with your child each day. Look for sounds in
words, little words in big words.
E.g. How many letters do you know on this page?
You have been learning about the letter 's', see how
many you can find on this page. in
s
ide,
s
hoe.
How many words can you read in this book?
Can you see the little words in the the big words?
begin - be, in.
Home Readers:
Things to do...
They read to you, you read to them.
Ask your child to retell story -
the main ideas in sequence
who the characters are
what do they think about the story
I

up
*find blends,
gr, fl
or words with endings-
ing, ly
Make list of new words and talk about what
they mean.
Notice the author and illustrator, do you know of
other books they have done?
News Focus:
