Provide scarecrows for the Kaiawa Gardens
Grow mushrooms
Kaiawa Gardens
Terms 1 & 2
Term 2
We have started the inquiry process to find out how scarecrows are made and which materials to use. We will then decide on what materials would be the best to use for our local environment. The scarecrows need to be sustainable. Where possible, we will reuse materials to construct our scarecrows.
We will investigate the various mushroom types available and decide which would be the most suitable for our growing conditions. Mushroom spore will be purchased and we hope to recover the cost for this purchase when we sell the mushrooms. Used mushroom compost will then be spread on our school vegetable gardens.

Cleaning out, re-planting, maintaining and
covering the frog pond
Kaiawa
Gardens
All year
We have drawn up a plan and have started sourcing materials. We will then clean out the frog pond before re-planting the pond area so that the pond is shaded. Next we will create a dome cover to protect our frogs. Once we have achieved this we will be closely monitoring how our frogs and goldfish are living in their new environment and we will keep the area maintained.
