Our expectation is that during the Intermediate Years at Beachlands School students learn all the skills, habits and knowledge that they need for a successful transition to College. As we are a full primary our students have unique leadership opportunities; understanding the power of being a role models to other students. Learners in the 11-13 age range are ready for further challenges and one of our aims is to ensure that each student has opportunities to step outside their comfort zone and be challenged to achieve more than they thought they were capable of. Students in the Intermediate time spend time each week in the Learning Pathways Centre, participating in a technology and science programme.
Parental input in the Intermediate years is greatly valued and we encourage parents to work in partnership to support our learning in a variety of ways. We aim to work with you to support your child at their development level to deepen their academic, social, sporting and cultural progress. To help us it is important that students are encouraged to become self responsible learners who take ownership of their learning and decision making. That they become learners who are motivated inquirers who have the confidence to seek any help that they may need.
Getting into solid study habits is also a vital in their preparation for college, therefore students are encouraged to plan out their afternoons to ensure that home learning deadlines are met.
Lines of Communication
1. At Beachlands School we believe in talking directly to the person that can solve the problem. This means that in most cases initial contact is an appointment with your child’s Teacher.
2. If there is no resolution then you need to make an appointment with the Team Leader.
3. After this point you may need to make an appointment with an Associate Principal.
4. At this stage if any further action is required they may refer you to the Principal or the SENCO depending on the action required..
